Elinor Ostrom (1934?-)

La politóloga Elinor Ostrom destaca en el campo de la Nueva Economía Institucional por sus estudios sobre la acción colectiva, la evolución de instituciones  y su supervivencia a largo plazo.

Como ejemplo de los temas en los que trabaja podemos señalar la atención especial que ha prestado a "El Tribunal de las Aguas" una institución creada en la edad media por una comunidad de regantes en el levante español y que sigue manteniendo hoy su arbitraje en los conflictos por el uso del agua.

Se doctoró en ciencia política en UCLA, en 1965 y desde 1966 es profesora en Indiana University. Es codirectora del Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis y pertenece también al claustro de la School of Public and Environmental Affairs. 

Es Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences desde 1991, y miembro de la National Academy of Science desde 2001. Ha sido presidente de la American Political Science Association de la Public Choice Society, de la Midwest Political Science Association, y de la International Association for the Study of Common Property.
